June 10, 2021

The Bernards Township Democratic Committee (BTDC) is proud to announce that Cameron Mays, a senior at Ridge High School, is the recipient of the BTDC 2021 Civic Scholarship. Ana Duarte McCarthy, BTDC member and chair of the scholarship committee, awarded Cameron the scholarship at Ridge High School’s Awards Ceremony, held on Wednesday, May 26th, at the high school.

The scholarship, founded in 2019, is awarded to a Ridge High School student entering their first year of college or senior year of high school who aspires to foster democratic values including, among others, diversity, equality, truth and justice, and serving their community.

The scholarship selection committee was impressed with Cameron’s outstanding academic and extracurricular activities, fulfillment of the Capstone Program involving a commitment of two additional years of college board advanced placement study, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in August 2020, and all that encompasses, serving as co-editor in chief of the RHS newspaper, and as a varsity athlete on RHS baseball team, and his participation from sophomore year through present, on Congressman Tom Malinowski’s (D-NJ 7th District) Youth Advisory Council.

As the recipient, Cameron received a $1,500.00 scholarship and the opportunity for a three-week internship with Congressman Tom Malinowski at his New Jersey headquarters.

Cameron aspires to have a future career in government and will attend George Washington University in the fall. We believe Cameron will be a positive force for change in our community, and are delighted to be able to support his journey through this scholarship.

True Blue: Bhavani Ravichandran

The BTDC benefits from all sorts of volunteers who work quietly, consistently and under the proverbial radar. One such volunteer is Bhavani Ravichandran. When asked to canvass, she makes herself available. When called on to plant signs – even multiple signs – in her very visible front yard, the answer is always yes. Bhavani grew […]
