Committee representatives are obliged to support the party’s purposes and support Democratic candidates for election after their selection in a primary election. Representatives should also seek to grow local party members, volunteer for campaigns, act as challengers during elections, help with events, and assist the municipal chair as requested.
The BTDC consists of 48 representatives, two from each district. Members should attend at least 50 percent of the open and closed meetings, participate in conducting the business of the BTDC and actively support individuals in local, county, state, and federal elections. Participation in Township Committee campaigns is particularly encouraged.
John Tompkins is a financial conservative, philanthropist, former Republican, former Independent, and now, Democrat, running for office. After retiring from Wall Street, his next chapter began with a simple idea which evolved into a philanthropic enterprise by donating all the profits to local and national charitable organizations. Having a vision and bringing that vision forward […]
Brett Hodges has walked the talk when it comes to being of service in our community, and it is what motivates him to run for a seat on the Township Committee. As his two adult daughters made their way through the township’s public schools, Brett co-managed everything from Destination Imagination teams to Ridge Forensic competitions. […]
A man of many interests, talents and achievements, David Lai-Len has focused on volunteering to help people his entire life. As a Democrat, he says he wavered only once and would have voted for a Republican — Eisenhower — but he was too young to vote! David is a member of VFW Post 7858 in […]
July has been a fairly quiet month on the municipal government front. Noteworthy is that the Township Committee approved a new soil erosion ordinance that returns enforcement of soil erosion control regulations to the Somerset-Union soil Conservation District for projects over 5,000 square feet of land disturbance. Previously, Township staff enforced regulations for these projects. […]
Since publishing the last BTDC Beat, the BTDC has been busy! What a whirlwind of awesome activity the past several weeks ushered in. Memorial Day Weekend kicked off the excitement with a great presence at the Liberty Corner Memorial Day parade, where the BTDC marched with a great group (and largest to date) of Democratic […]
The BTDC is proud to introduce its new treasurer, Sima Guven, who is no stranger to politics or spreadsheets. Sima is assuming the role after Fred Douglis successfully managed the books for many years running. A hearty thanks to Fred for his work! Like many members of our community, Sima became interested in making a […]
It’s finally summer! School has ended and many of you have enjoyed graduations, and have participated in a variety of activities. I’ve had the pleasure to be part of the Basking Ridge Indian Community HOLI celebration and the 35th Municipal Alliance Twilight Challenge. Mayor Janice Fields and I also joined other Township departments at Oak […]
Bernards Township’s very own Elizabeth Graner was sworn in as Somerset County’s newly appointed Commissioner on June 24, 2025. Former Commissioner Doug Singleterry was required to resign following his appointment to the state judiciary on Monday, June 2, 2025. This triggered a special election by the Somerset County Democratic Committee. At the time of the […]
Unscripted. Real. No teleprompter. Our team is proud to be supporting two men who care deeply about family. When it comes to fatherhood, author Clarence Budington Kelland said: “My father didn’t tell me how to live. He lived and let me watch him do it.” Happy Father’s Day from Team Hodges & Tompkins
To each and every one of you who made it important to vote in the primary…. THANK YOU! Thanks to you, we received the highest number of votes for either party in a gubernatorial primary, and the highest number of votes for either party in ANY primary election with the exception of 2020. The 2020 Presidential […]
May has been an active month for the Township including celebrations, recognitions, and making a significant step toward meeting our fourth round of Affordable Housing obligations. Many of you were part of our Annual Charter Day held Saturday, May 17th. This year we celebrated our 265th Anniversary, whereby Governor Sir Francis Bernards was granted the […]
