Leaders you Know

EXPERIENCE YOU CAN TRUST

Mayor Ana Duarte McCarthy and former Committeewoman Joan Bannan will maintain the momentum of service-oriented leaders who foster unity and respectful civic discourse to enable the best possible outcomes for Bernards Township and its residents.

fiscal responsibility

We will continue a “Pay as You Go” capital budgeting policy and pursue opportunities for additional revenues through Congressional Project Funding, Congressionally directed spending, state and county grants, and local economic development to keep Bernards Township debt-free and help local businesses thrive while attracting new investments.

We will proceed to remediate challenges which impact our budget, such as the legislation affecting state health care benefits plan, by collaborating with the Conference of Mayors and the NJ League of Municipalities to explore all potential solutions.

PUBLIC SAFETY

We will introduce safety initiatives, such as the Street-Smart Campaign, launching in May 2026, with the goal of raising awareness about pedestrian and bicycle safety through various educational media and targeted police enforcement.

We will continue to support our highly trusted police department, seeking funds through grants and other initiatives for necessary resources, to ensure our Township’s continued ranking as one of the safest municipalities in NJ.

land use

We will keep our attention focused on strategic planning to preserve the character of our community and protect our resources, while promoting sustainable development consistent with the Township Master Plan.

We will anticipate future challenges, such as the potential of a fifth round of affordable housing in 2037, to be prepared to protect open spaces and housing density.

TRANSPARENCY

We will maintain transparent and accountable government and continue to openly communicate and share information on business conducted and how your tax dollars are spent.

We believe your voice matters. Our commitment to this belief is reflected by the Democratic majority’s 2026 reinstatement of the second public comment at township committee meetings.

INCLUSION

We remain committed to creating a vibrant, life-long community all residents can call home. Bernards Township recently undertook steps towards this goal in partnership with Somerset Hills YMCA by securing a grant through the NJ Department of Human Services.

Together the Township and YMCA are co-sponsoring an Age-Friendly Community initiative to build more inclusive, supportive, and livable communities for older adults.
