Building a Better Community
Whether you are a newcomer or a lifelong resident of Bernards Township, we believe the Township Committee should be an active proponent for you, constantly seeking ways to maintain and improve our community. Our platform points the way for Building a Better Community. We live here because we love all Bernards Township has to offer. But we know things require additional work and attention if we want to maintain the township’s excellent reputation and the high quality of life we enjoy. We are focusing on four areas where we believe our experience and commitment can serve all the residents of Bernards Township: Safety, Community Engagement, Forward Planning and Fiscal Responsibility.
Being safe and secure in our homes and our community is fundamental. Our township police force does an excellent job, and we intend to continue supporting them with the equipment, technology, and tools they need to be effective. Safety goes beyond that, however. We consistently hear concerns about lack of sidewalks and walking paths, the absence of bike lanes, and vehicles traveling too fast on our township streets and roads. Those are issues we would address. Working together with the local police, neighborhood associations and the community, we believe we can build a better, safer community.

- Ensure our police department is fully equipped to protect all residents.
- Develop partnerships with neighborhood, condominium and community associations to keep residents up to date on crime prevention tactics.
- Create a bicycle and pedestrian advisory board to analyze unsafe roadways and their remediation and explore outside funding sources to develop bike trails and walking paths.
- Collaborate with long-established, successful programs such as Neighborhood Watch.
- Use our professional experience, including Adam’s experience on the U.S. Attorney Office’s task force for car theft and car jacking to enhance our efforts to thwart these crimes.

Our community is rich with opportunities for people to be engaged, but it can be difficult to discover those opportunities. We believe ensuring a diversity of opinions and voices are heard and considered will keep Bernards Township an outstanding place to live through all the stages of life. Whether you are new to our community or a lifelong resident, a teen or a senior, Republican, Democrat, or independent, and regardless of your ethnicity, race or religion, and however you identify, your opinion matters, and we believe your voice should be heard.

- Explore the opportunities for a community art and writing center, and work with existing organizations to promote and further their programming.
- Engage teens with more opportunities, such as a band night at a park with parents welcome.
- Explore the possibility of township summer camps to offer full day sessions.

- Explore ways to manage traffic.
- Minimize the impact of light manufacturing and warehousing on our community.
- Work creatively and thoughtfully to meet the township’s affordable housing obligation.
- Ensure our existing businesses and shopping areas throughout the community, and our historic downtown, are supported and thriving.
- Actively plan for future infrastructure needs, including roads, sewer and water.

- Research grants and partnerships that are available to improve the township through the county and the state, and at the national level.
- Address planning and zoning issues early to avoid expensive litigation.
- Collaborate with developers to share the cost of improvements where appropriate and possible,
- Maintain our infrastructure to help residents avoid excessive vehicle maintenance and repair costs arising from roads and streets in poor condition.
