True Blue: Nancy D’Andrea

February 27, 2024

“Do the numbers” could be Nancy D’Andrea’s mantra for the Bernards Township Democratic Committee this year.  A self-described “math kid” whose academic degrees led to an early career in chemical engineering and later to founding her own travel business, Nancy is focused on one thing for 2024 – and that’s voter turnout.

Disseminating the Democratic party’s message and policy is important, but more urgent for her, she says, is motivating existing Democratic voters to cast their ballots. The presidential contest will help turnout, but she’s determined that hard work is essential – and essential early on – to get out the vote.

Nancy and several progressive women thinkers created and grew what is today’s Bernards Township Democratic Committee. After the 2017 Women’s March on Washington, they met and worked to address the township’s changing demographics. She became the BTDC’s first chair and subsequently became active in many township and Somerset County Democratic Committee posts, projects, and activities.

Nancy is currently Executive Director of the Somerset County Improvement Authority which aids local municipalities and school districts to lower costs. She is also recording secretary for the SCDC, a board member of the Somerset County Park Commission and a state committee member for Somerset County. Nancy was most recently recognized with the Somerset County Federation of Democratic Women’s Distinguished President’s Award for her service to the community.

As an interesting aside, when Nancy was in college, her studies included the humanities, which may have increased her avid interest in travel and the arts. And yes, it is true: Nancy could teach you how to tap dance!
